- ASK begins property search for placement of proposed skatepark.

- ASK begins phase one of donation requests.
- ASK begins sale of custom made skateboard decks.

- ASK begins fundraising during Coal Railroad Days.
- Dunking Booth and Jail & Bail net over $750.00 in donations.
SEPTEMBER 2007
- ASK hosts free concert. "Indy" Rock Band Trouble Everyday from LA / PHILLY rock out in downtown
Appalachia.
OCTOBER 2007
- ASK begins phase one of grant seeking.

- ASK hosts band THE SKY DROPS, Appalachia rocks out again at the Appy Civic Center!

2008 JANUARY 2008
- ASK contacts N&S Railroad (Norfolk Southern Corporation) requesting they donate a parcel of land to
the town of Appalachia for a Sports Complex
- Congressman Rick Boucher writes the Norfolk Southern Corporation CEO requesting they donate the
land to our town. Congressman gives his full support for our project in this letter.
FEBRUARY 2008
- ASK calls Jeffrey George in Land Management of Norfolk Southern Corporation / SW Virginia Territory
for current update. Norfolk Southern informs us our request has been forwarded for "internal comments".
MARCH 2008
- ASK forwards Congressman Rick Boucher first draft blueprints of sports complex along with a letter
inviting him and Norfolk Southern Corporation representatives to come walk the requested property with them and town officials.
- NORFOLK SOUTHERN CORPORATION'S Manager of Strategic Planning suggests a meeting to take
place in Appalachia between the Appalachia Skate Kommission / Sports Complex Committee, Representatives for the proposed Rails to Trails Committee and the N&S Railroad.
APRIL 2008
- ASK meets with Norfolk Southern Corporation, Town, County, State Officials and Lenowisco, to discuss
the feasibility of building a skatepark on old railroad land. We discover the land is not environmentally friendly for building a park.
MAY 2008
- ASK works closely with Town and County Officials as well as Lenowiseco to find a parcel of land suitable,
within the town limits, to purchase for the park site.
JUNE 2008
- ASK receives a customized hand painted skateboard from renown artist JOE CASTRO to be given away
during Railroad Days 2008.
AUGUST 2008
- ASK raised over $500.00 during the Railroad Days Dunking Booth fundraiser and ASK skateboard
giveaway.
- SABRAH STACY wins the ASK BOARD.
- ASK BOARD is donated back to the Appalachia Skate Kommission.
SEPTEMBER 2008 to DECEMBER 2008
- ASK waits on word from Lenowisco as well as town management who are trying to work with land owner
of the ideal property to place the park.
2009 JANUARY 2009
- ASK receives word the land owner has other plans for the property. Our land quest continues,..
- ASK approaches town council and requests the use of town property near the bridge at PayLess to place a
skate plaza. Answer should be coming SOON.
- ASK is informed "the e-mails are flying" in reference to the proposed property request.
FEBRUARY 2009
- ASK obtains use of Town Property for the placement of the skateplaza.
- ASK contacts the AMERICAN RAMP COMPANY. Plans are ARC will meet with ASK in the next couple
of months to help design a plaza on the property.
- ASK committee members along with Wise County Supervisor / Appalachia Town Manager Fred Luntsford
complete a request from VDOT to "plumb bob" from the bridge, mark 5' out from the plumb bob spot and we then have our property boundary in respect to the bridge.
MARCH 2009
- ASK 2009 Sticker Design Contest Begins.
- The AMERICAN RAMP COMPANY meet with ASK's committee members, town officials, and more
importantly SKATERS to showcase their product and gather property measurements so they can submit a park design for bidding.
APRIL 2009
- Prospects of Corporate Donations look promising.
JUNE 2009
- ASK has fence installed that encircles skate park property.
- ASK welcomes skateboarders to use the property to skate.
AUGUST 2009
- ASK raises $147.00 during Coal Rail Road Days. Gotta be happy,..it's more than what we had!
- ASK paves all 9987 square ft. of the park.
- ASK receives Corporate Donations totaling $75,000.00
- Park is named FRIENDS OF COAL SKATE PARK.
- ASK orders skate park equipment. Delivery date to be announced soon.
